Instructions for disabling Cookies from your browser
If you are using Internet Explorer

If you are using the Firefox browser

In the Voting Browser, select the «Edit» menu and select «Preferences». Click on «Privacy». Position the «Cookies Block» setting at all times and click OK.
If you are using Google Chrome browser
Click the Chrome menu in the browser toolbar. Select «Settings». Click «Show advanced settings». In the «Privacy» section, click on the «Content settings» button. In the «Cookies» section, select «Do not allow the sites to store data» and check «blocking cookies and third party site data», and then click OK.

What are cookies?
Cookies, as described by reference regulations, are small text strings that the sites visited by the user send to his terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored and then retransmitted to the same sites at the next visit of the same user. While browsing a site, the user may also receive on his terminal cookies that are sent from different sites or web servers (so-called «third parties»), on which may reside certain elements (such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site that he is visiting. Cookies are used for different purposes: carrying out computer authentication, monitoring sessions, storing information on specific configurations concerning users accessing the server, etc. Please note that in implementation of the provisions contained in Directive 2009/136/EC, it is required to obtain prior and informed consent of users to the installation of cookies used for purposes other than purely technical ones (see art. 1, paragraph 5, letter a) of the Legislative Decree. 28 May 2012, no. 69, which amended art. 122 of Legislative Decree. 196/2003 — the «Code»). Two macro-categories are therefore identified:»technical» cookies and «profiling» cookies:
- Technical cookies
Technical cookies are those used solely for the purpose of «transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service» (cf. art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code). They are not used for further purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into browsing or session cookies, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website (for example, allowing you to make a purchase or authenticate yourself to access reserved areas); cookie analytics, assimilated to technical cookies where used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, about the number of users and how they visit the site; functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a number of selected criteria (e. g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided to the same. The prior consent of the users is not required for the installation of such cookies, while the obligation to provide the information according to the art. 13 of the Code.
- Profiling cookies
Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles for the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user during web browsing. Due to the particular invasiveness that such devices may have in the sphere of users’ privacy, European and Italian legislation provides that the user must be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent. They are referred to in the Article. 122 of the Code, where it provides that «the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or user or access to information already stored is permitted only on condition that the contractor or user has given his consent after having been informed in the simplified manner referred to in article 13, paragraph 3» (art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).
